The Richmond Fire Department and police officers are shutting down a street near the Marriott Hotel at Broad and 5th Streets after multiple explosions.
There have been four explosions so far from different manholes.
It could be a gas leak or electrical fire. Witnesses on scene say it smells like an electrical fire. The manager of the hotel called the fire department after he said he saw smoke from the manhole.
Traffic is blocked off right now in front of the hotel and surrounding streets.
Representatives from the Department of Public Utilities along with Dominion Power are headed to the scene.
