The City of Norfolk will perform tests on the public alert system Thursday at 2 p.m.

Norfolk residents will receive pre-recorded messages on their landline telephones through the Nixie Alert System.

The system is used to gauge the time it takes for the public to receive emergency messages.

For more information, or to sign up for these public safety alerts via text or phone, call (757) 823-4119 or text 888777.

I received multiple calls from this number! I was home sick trying to sleep! Why do they have to call everyone multiple times? It’s a waste of taxpayer money and disturbing my peace! Why am I receiving calls without my permission? Shouldn’t this be tested only on people who want to be part of this system? It’s another example of government overreach.
