Man involved in train accident in Chesapeake dies from injuries

Chesapeake, Va. – A man was knocked unconscious and later died after a train slammed into the bike he was riding in Chesapeake on Tuesday night.

Police say calls came in about the incident at 8:30 p.m.

The man, identified as 63-year-old Robert Q. Godfrey, was walking across the train tracks on Portlock Road towards Campostella Road with his bike.

An Amtrak train came by and clipped the bike which threw the man. He was found unconscious and unresponsive and rushed to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police announced Wednesday that the man had died as a result of the accident.

Crews are still investigating the accident.
