Two women shot while driving in Newport News

Newport News, Va. (WTKR) - Police are investigating after two women were shot while driving in Newport News early Saturday morning.

The shooting happened around 2:50am in the area of Roanoke Ave and 22rd Street.

A 26-year-old Newport News woman was shot in her thigh and a 29-year-old Hampton woman was shot in her shoulder and buttocks.

Both women were transported to the hospital with what police describe as non-life threatening injuries.

Officers say they found shell casings in that area and at least one house was struck by the gunfire.

The women told officers on scene that the suspect was a black man driving a silver or gray sedan.
