Coast Guard looking for missing boater near Fort Macon, NC

The Coast Guard is looking for a man who reportedly fell off his boat on Thursday while clamming in the Back Sound near Fort Macon, North Carolina.

A relative of 48-year-old Ricky Lewis contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center watchstanders around 10:00 p.m. Thursday night reporting Lewis was missing.

Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and dispatched crews on two boats from CGS Fort Macon and a helicopter from CGAS Elizabeth City to search for Lewis.

Lewis’ boat was located near Shell Point with the outboard motor down, anchor on deck, and two buckets of clams on board.
