Newport News, Va. - A 56-year-old man has been arrested for stalking and assault after two elementary school girls reported being approached at the bus stop.
Newport News Police say the two girls, ages 9 and 10, told school personnel that a man had approached them while they were at their bus stop, just outside Regency Square Apartments.
The girls said this wasn't the first time that the man had approached them. They said they saw him on the Saturday before Easter. The man was allegedly staring at the girls and told them he was going to shoot them with a gun.
In Thursday's incident, the girls said the man again approached them and said he was going to shoot them and have sex with them.
The girls told their bus driver, who told the girls what they needed to do to report the incident at school.
Both girls were able to describe the suspect. They said he was carrying a Walmart bag that had something sharp poking out of it, which he pointed at the girls but never made any contact with.
A third girl, age 11, was interviewed by police on Friday. She was also present at the bus stop on Thursday.
Police located the man hanging near the bus stop on Friday morning. He was detained and interviewed at police headquarters.
The man, identified as Vandarren Walker of the 600 block of Dresden Drive, was arrested and charged with three counts of stalking and two counts of assault.
He is being held on no bond.
