A British woman has been awarded a large settlement after a botched tummy tuck led to her belly button exploding during a flight.

Patricia Jackson, 68, underwent surgery in 2005 to remove excess skin after she lost a large amount of weight.

The doctors told Patricia they had not been able to create a new belly button for her because there was not enough skin left over after the operation.

It turns out, the doctors actually left part of her original belly button inside her.

In 2011, while on a flight returning from a vacation in Portugal, Patricia’s belly button “unexpectedly burst.”

She had to again undergo reconstructive surgery and has now been awarded a  £22,500 (37,914.75 dollars) compensation after suing the doctor.
