Crews put out fire at Chesapeake recycling plant

Chesapeake, Va. – Crews in Chesapeake put out a small fire at the Sims Metal Recycling Plant.

The plant is located at 4300 Buell Street in the Portlock section of the city. Crews arrived on the scene at around 6:56 p.m. and found smoke coming from an above ground conveyor system.

Fire crews opened the conveyor belt and found the product was on fire.

The flames were confined to a small area of the building.

They used foam to put the fire out.

They were able to get the fire under control about 30 minutes later.

The cause is still under investigation. Officials do not suspect anything suspicious.
