Elizabeth City, Nc. - It's around 9:00 p.m. Friday night, rescue crews rush to pull a person out of the rubble and onto a stretcher after a reported tornado touched down on this rural Elizabeth City Road.

NewsChannel3 was the only station there to see crews with flashlights in hand taking action to help.

Through the darkness you could see a clear path where trees were snapped off and power lines brought down. Pasquotank County emergency operations confirm one person was hurt and transported to Sentara Norfolk.

Christy Berent lives a few doors down from the house that was destroyed. She said she was watching the forecast on NewsChannel 3 when the power went out and the storm was right in her backyard.

“The house just started shaking and it sounded like a train was going through the backyard and he told me come running and I grabbed my little yorkie and went running in through the hallway and back in the closet," Christy Berent told NewsChannel 3.

She said it was about 5 minutes later when it suddenly got silent. Berent told NewsChannel 3 all that was damaged was her families fence she says it`s nothing compared to devastation just down the road.

”We didn`t lose a house we didn`t lose each other thank you god we are still alive,” Berent said.
