Two people have been arrested after allegedly leaving their young children home while they robbed an ABC store in Yorktown.

According to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the ABC store around 3:20 a.m. on April 14th after being alerted by the store’s alarm.

Deputies found that the rear door of the business had been pried open. As they began checking the area behind the store, they found a bottle of alcohol from the store and the pry bar that they believe was used to open the back door.

Deputies continued their search and spotted a white male jump up and run. A female, identified as 28-year-old Elizabeth Pruitt, then immediately surrendered to the deputies.

The man, 51-year-old Edward Gregory, jumped a fence but was immediately met by deputies.

Both were found with bottles of alcohol on them that had been stolen from the ABC store.

Deputies later discovered that the couple had left their children, ages 8, 5 and 3, home alone while they attempted the burglary.

Both are facing charges of abuse and neglect as well as charges of burglary, grand larceny, possession of burglary tools, and wearing a mask in public.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office says both are frequent fliers with the law.
