Virginia Beach, Va. - Friends, family, and even strangers opened their wallets for families of the four victims from last week's crash on Sandbridge Road in Virginia Beach.

14-year-old Cheyenne Proctor, 10-year-old Cherish Proctor, 13-year-old Gabriel Proctor, and 38-year-old Marlo Bayot were all killed.

“There's 3 kids that have been lost, a fiancee, 3 kids still fighting for their life. I just literally sat in my room all day and cried, and I said I've got to do something to help," says Noel Ray.

It all started with Ray who has known the families for years.

He wanted to help with funeral costs and medical bills, so he created a page on Facebook, The Angels in Heaven Fund, to raise money.

"From that point, it just took off within 30 minutes. I raised $2,000,”says Ray. “People we don't even know have contacted me to donate money, donate services to the family. This community is just so tight. It's really touching."

And it kept going up to $9,000 in just a few days.

Tuesday night, the fundraiser went to a whole new level; dozens piled through the doors at Shakas at the Oceanfront.

Corbitt Carroll helped organize the event. He says many there had lost touch with the families, but were brought together through their tragedy.

“It's sad it takes something like this to bring people together but sometimes it happens that way," says Carroll.
