Suffolk, Va. – It was a young girl’s complaints of abuse at her elementary school that landed her mother, 31-year-old Lilongo Lewis behind bars, according to police.
Suffolk investigators say the girl first reported the physical abuse last year. Child protective services were called out to her school, Hillpoint Elementary, in December.
Police say the four-month-long investigation into the abuse ended Tuesday when Lewis was arrested.
A friend of Lewis tells NewsChannel 3 that Lewis is a mother of five children and the victim is a first grader at Hillpoint Elementary.
Lewis is behind bars at Western Tidewater Regional Jail charged with felony child abuse and child cruelty.
