Newport News, Va. - A man is dead after police say he was found shot inside of a car in Newport News on Tuesday.
The victim has been identified as 79-year-old Clinton Stonewall Jackson, Sr. of the 500 block of 44th Street in Newport News.
Emergency officials received the call at around 5:21 p.m.
They say this occurred in the 600 block of 33rd Street.
When they arrived, they found a man who had been shot sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle.
He was taken to medics to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead at 5:57 p.m.
Police say the car was going down 33rd Street westbound. It hit the corner of a parked vehicle and stopped in front of a home after hitting a fence. Witnesses tell police that during the incident, a man was seen running from the vehicle.
Police do not have any details about a suspect.
