Body discovered in Northampton County identified as missing Williamsburg fisherman

Northampton County, Va. – A body discovered April 2nd on a Northampton County barrier island has been identified as a fisherman that was reported missing in December.

On April 2nd at around 2:09 p.m., emergency officials received a call about the body.

Investigators and Virginia Marine Police responded to the area near the south end of Raccoon Island to recover the body.

The body was taken to the chief medical examiner’s office in Norfolk for autopsy and identification.

On April 16th, the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office announced that the Medical Examiner has identified the body as that of Gary Edward Webb, 56, of Williamsburg.

Webb was reported missing by his family on December 17th after failing to return home from a fishing trip on the York River.

His boat was recovered on the Gloucester County side of the York River, about one mile south of the Coleman Bridge.

The medical examiner’s office reports that a cause of death is still pending.
