Virginia Beach, Va. - The calendar says it`s spring, but with gusty winds and cold weather like this, it feels a lot more like winter.

“It`s really cold. It`s kind of surprising. I figured I`d come on spring break and it`d be warmer by the beach. It`s windy, but it makes the waves look nice,” says Destiny Abercrombie who is visiting the area from Missouri.

She’s used to the cold, but the combination of the wind and the temperatures isn`t what she expected on her vacation from school.

“Yeah, it like kind of smacks you in the face. And it`s like extremely cold,” says Abercrombie.

And this was no beach day. Several people walked up and down the beach with coats just to stay warm.

NewsChannel 3 spoke to the city of Virginia Beach.

The city says there has been no wind related emergencies today, but officials are keeping a close eye on trees around the city which could shift or lean a bit from a combination of the wind and wet weather we`ve seen this year.
