Daughter of Norfolk woman found dead: ‘I just want him to explain why’

She went missing for 10 days before her body was found this past Saturday, and now, police have made an arrest in the death of Norfolk mom Rosa Powell.

Police charged 42-year-old Cortez Scott with 2nd Degree Murder Tuesday.

His arrest, though, isn't providing closure for Powell's family.

“We still don't know what happened to her,” said Whitley Powell, Rosa’s daughter.

Powell says she has never seen Scott before, but that he might have known her mother from the past.

Scott lives off Goff Street in Huntersville...just a few blocks away from where the Powell's used to live before moving to Ingleside.

“She doesn't talk to anybody she doesn't trust and don't know, so she had to have known him for a while,” said Powell.

Court records don’t shed much light--they show Scott worked as a furniture delivery man, but there is no information as to why he might have wanted Powell dead.

Police haven't even told NewsChannel 3 how the missing mom was killed...only saying the evidence they have against Scott is very strong.

“It’s a violent death. I want answers,” said Powell. “I’m glad they have him, but now it’s the answering part. Why? What’s your motive?”

Cortez is being held in the Norfolk Jail without bond.

His next court date is March 26th.

Meanwhile, funeral plans have been set for Rosa Powell—she will be laid to rest this Friday.
