One hospitalized in Newport News apartment fire

Newport News, Va. – Crews responded to an apartment fire on Friday afternoon in Newport News, officials tell NewsChannel 3.

It happened around 1 p.m. at The Towers apartments on the 9th floor.

The building, occupied by 200 people, was evacuated.

Two buses were brought in to keep the residents warm during the evacuation.

One person was taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

People who live on floors 2-6 can return home, officials say.
