Stolen car found submerged in water near Peterson’s Yacht Basin

Newport News, Va. – The Newport News Police Department is investigating a vehicle found submerged in the water at Peterson’s Yacht Basin, located at 16th Street and Oak Avenue.

Emergency Communications received the call of a vehicle in the water at approximately 6:18 a.m. on Thursday.

The Newport News Fire Department Dive Team Members searched the interior of the vehicle and found no one inside.

Once the vehicle was towed out of the water, police were able to examine the trunk area – which was also empty.

The vehicle is a red Dodge Charger and is confirmed stolen out of Virginia Beach.
