Northeastern North Carolina saw more ice than snow during Monday’s winter storm.

“It got very hazardous, very quick, late yesterday afternoon and then after the temperature settled in last night, it really made it icy,” explained John Gregory of Elizabeth City.

NCDOT tells NewsChannel 3 that their crews were out all morning Tuesday putting down salt and clearing the roads.

Slushy and icy spots remained, but travel was overall good throughout the area by the afternoon.

For longtime locals like Gregory, the harsh and seemingly never-ending winter is starting to overstay its welcome.

“It would be nice for the bad weather to slow down a little bit and start getting a little bit of sunshine and start warming up a little bit more,” Gregory said.
