Gale Warning issued for Virginia and N. Carolina waters, Chesapeake Bay

The National Weather Service has issued a Gale Warning that will remain in effect through Friday afternoon.

The warning affects the Virginia portion of the Chesapeake Bay, the Currituck Sound, and Atlantic coastal waters from Fenwick Island, Delaware to Currituck Beach in NE North Carolina extending 20 miles out to sea.

A wind advisory will also be in effect from 4:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday in Virginia Beach, Accomack County, Currituck County, the Outer Banks, and Northampton County, Virginia.

** Gusty winds may increase to 25-30 knots

** Waves 1-2 ft.

Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
