Sebrell, Va. - More than two months after vandals tore up a cemetery in Sebrell, deputies have made an arrest.

Monday they charged 25-year-old Toney Brock of Wakefield.

It's news Mindy Purvis has been waiting to get.

She discovered the damage at her family's burial place while visiting her mother's grave in September.

“It’s sad because I've been coming here since I was 5 to 6 years old with my father on Memorial Days and times when there were family funerals. This is where the family would come, and to come out here and see so much destruction is really disturbing,” says Purvis.

Others in the community have loved ones buried there as well and Purvis says they've all been anxiously waiting for an arrest.

But the suspect deputies arrested says he's not the one responsible.

Brock contacted NewsChannel 3 wanting to tell his side of the story, but later said his lawyer advised him not to be interviewed while the case proceeds.

The sheriff's office hasn't gone into detail about his arrest, but say evidence at the scene led them to Brock.

Purvis says some of the evidence includes gloves, receipts and beer cans.

The sheriff's office says they're still investigating and there could be more arrests as well.

For whoever is responsible, Purvis still has one question: Why?

“How would they feel if someone went and destroyed their loved ones’ final resting place?” asks Purvis.
