Newport News, Virginia -  Two adults and four children living in a room at the Economy Motel Suites on Jefferson Avenue have been displaced after a fire early Friday morning.

The family was using the stove as an alternate heat source and that is what caused the fire around 4:00am, according to fire officials.

Firefighters were able to put the fire out quickly.

The fire was contained to the kitchen area and the room has been condemned.

The first question I have is why wasn’t the heat working in the hotel. One should not have had to use the stove to warm up a hotel room.

  • T.Jenkins says:

If u Have a big gap between the heating unit and wall that it sits in the heater is not gonna heat the room completely. That Hotel has shot of problems. Someone fell through a floor last month. And it’s coach infested.

  • T.Jenkins says:

    It’s roach infested
