It was over a year ago that NewsChannel 3 introduced you to Lizetta McKesson, founder of A Thousand Shoes for a Thousand Smiles.

Tonight, she's smiling big.

When we first met Lizetta we shared how her mission is to collect new shoes for needy children for back to school. She's been doing this for nine years. It's a huge effort involving several months, plus a variety of businesses and donors.

She has a similar campaign around Christmas.

Well this Christmas, it took one conversation to get boxes and boxes of brand new shoes!

She approached local rapper, Pusha-T, who used his influence to contact Adidas - and they delivered: one thousand sneakers.

The shoes will remain in storage until they're handed out on Monday to kids from across Hampton Roads who've been selected through various local social services departments.
