A 34-year-old Newport News man was arrested early Saturday after a Friday afternoon attack on a 33-year-old man who was babysitting his children.

Newport News Police say the 33-year-old victim is the boyfriend of the children's mother.

The victim was reportedly watching the three children when their father, 34-year-old Shondall Jefferson, kicked the front door open with a firearm in his hand, and confronted the victim.

The victim reported that he was struck several times in the head with the firearm by Jefferson, who then fled from the home.

Jefferson was located early Saturday morning around 2:00 a.m. He has been arrested and charged with malicious wounding, pointing/brandishing a firearm, burglary, and possession of a firearm by a non-violent felon.
