Police identify man shot and killed in Newport News

Newport News, Va. – Police say a 21-year-old Newport News man was shot and killed Tuesday morning.

It happened early Tuesday morning, September 17, 2013. Police say a sergeant heard gunshots near Dresden Drive and Adams Drive around 2 a.m.

They say bullet casings were found nearby. However, police communications never received any calls in reference to gunshots.

Police say they got a call 20 minutes later about a gunshot victim who was taken to the hospital by another person.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Paris Bennett of the 900 block of North Avenue in Newport News.

He was pronounced dead at 11:35 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing. There is currently no suspect information to release at this time.

This is the city’s tenth homicide for the year.
