Norfolk parking garage evacuated due to car fire

Norfolk, Va. – Norfolk fire and rescue crews responded to a car fire at a Norfolk parking garage on Monday morning, officials tell NewsChannel 3.

It happened at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 29. Crews responded to a car fire at the parking garage located in the 900 block of East Main Street.

Firefighters on scene reported fire with heavy smoke showing inside the City Hall Parking Garage South.

Fire crews deployed a hoseline, and began to evacuate the parking garage while the fire was being extinguished.

An additional engine company was called out to provide more water and personnel.

Several vehicles parked beside the burning vehicle did sustain some heat damage. There was some minor smoke damage inside the parking garage on the first floor.

There are no injuries to report. Traffic in and out of the parking garage was stopped while the fire crews extinguished the fire. Shortly after, traffic resumed to normal.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
