Update: Newport News police arrest man in connection to shooting, other charges

Update: Police have now arrested Avery Pringle, one of the men wanted in connection to a shooting on Madison Ave. Officers say a citizen's tip helped them make the arrest. Police conducted a traffic stop on Terminal Ave. and Pringle was then arrested. 

He is now in the Newport News City Jail without bond. 

Police are still looking for the second man,  Cortez Bumphus. 

Newport News, Va. - Police need your help to find two men who they say are considered dangerous after a shooting occurred at a home on Madison Avenue.

They are looking for 20-year-old Cortez Dayshawn Bumphus and 23-year-old Avery Lee Pringle. Police believe they could still be in the area.

Police were called about the incident on July 11th at 6:22 p.m. They were told men were inside the home armed with handguns. Gunfire was exchanged between someone who lived in the home and the two suspects before police arrived on the scene. No one was hurt.

The two wanted men have nearly 40 outstanding warrants between them.

Cortez Bumphus faces charges of Abduction, Carjacking, Burglary while armed to commit robbery, Attempt robbery, Robbery, Attempt to shoot in the commission of a felony, Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, Conspiracy to commit a felony and Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Avery Pringle faces charges of abduction, Carjacking, Burglary while armed to commit robbery, Attempted robbery, Robbery, Attempt to shoot in the commission of a felony, Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and Conspiracy to commit a felony.
