Norfolk, Va. - Kam Chancellor, Seattle Seahawks Safety, joins us this morning to talk about an event this weekend in Norfolk.

Kam is making a special visit to the Hampton Roads area on Saturday, July 13, to celebrate the academic accomplishments of 10 James Monroe Elementary School students.

As part of his charitable initiatives through the Kam Cares Foundation, Chancellor will present new bicycles to rising sixth graders who have maintained honor roll and perfect attendance throughout the school year.

The recipients previously received The Kam Chancellor Academic Excellence Award – named in honor of the star safety and former James Monroe student – during the school’s graduation ceremony.

Kam attended that elementary school as a child.

The Bike Rally culminates James Monroe’s end-of-the-year award presentations. Recipients of the Kam Chancellor Academic Excellence Award also received gift certificates to Wal-Mart and Target.

The Bike Rally is free and open to the public, and will include a bike parade. The parade – led by Chancellor – will begin at Children’s Harbor Ghent, proceed down Llewellyn Ave., and end at Maury High School, the Pro Bowler’s alma mater.

The Kam Cares Foundation has partnered with the Norfolk Police Department, Bike Norfolk, and East Coast Bicycles to provide a brief bike safety and registration course. Attendees will also enjoy a complimentary pizza lunch. In addition, the foundation will donate new tricycles to Children’s Harbor of Hampton Roads.

This event is one of several philanthropic initiatives sponsored by the Kam Cares Foundation this year. The organization presented the Fourth Annual Seven Cities Family & Friends Memorial Day Cookout in May and will host its annual Back-to-School Supplies Drive in August.
