Hampton, Va. - A man was hit and killed while riding a motorcycle in Hampton.

Neighbors tell NewsChannel 3 the man was killed because the grass is too high on Wind Mill Point Road.

Bill Crooker's friends and neighbors spent the afternoon setting up a memorial on Wind Mill Point Road right where he was killed last night while he was driving his motorcycle and ran into a pick-up truck.

Police are still investigating, but those close to Crooker say the grass and the City of Hampton are the reasons he's no longer here.

“The limbs need to be cut back. It needs to be taken care of. We need action here in Hampton,” says one of the victim’s friends.

“It frustrates me because I made the call to them. I called them twice possibly three times and I said, 'Listen, there's blind spots on this road. Somebody is gonna get hurt and now it's happened,'” says the victim’s friend.

The victim’s friends say they've complained about the grass several times and no one has been there to cut it in years.

Something like this happens because the city doesn't take something like weeds growing on the side of the road seriously.

NewsChannel 3 took action and called the city today with questions, but officials told us they didn't want to comment so soon into the investigation.

“It's a shame that it takes something like me losing my friend over the city not taking their job seriously. I've lost a real good friend, a real dear friend. Not only that, two kids have lost their father over the city not taking care of this. It's ridiculous, it's uncalled for,” says the victim’s friend.
