RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division has temporarily suspended normal operations on the Bayview-Aurora route due to high winds from Tropical Storm Andrea. Operations will resume as soon as it is safe to travel.

Tonight’s Hoedown and Latin Fest Cancelled in Virginia Beach
Two events scheduled in Virginia Beach tonight – Friday, June 7 – have been cancelled because of Tropical Storm Andrea:
• The regular Friday night hoedown at the Farmer’s Market has been cancelled.
• All events scheduled for Friday night at the Oceanfront in connection with the Hardee’s Latin Fest have been cancelled.
The festival will resume Saturday, weather permitting. Any changes to Saturday’s schedule will be posted at http://www.BeachStreetUSA.com.
HELP, or Hampton Roads Ecumenical Lodgings and Provisions, says its Buckroe office at 329 Buckroe Ave. will be open to help the homeless.
The Coast Guard encourages boaters Friday to stay off the water due to the approach of Tropical Storm Andrea and the storm’s impact on the Hampton Roads area.
11AM Update: Tropical Storm Andrea is centered about 50 miles SW of Fayetteville, NC and continues moving northeast at 28 mph.
Andrea will continue to track northeast today and continue to pick up forward speed. Max winds are near 45 mph and slow, slight weakening is expected today.
Andrea will start to lose tropical characteristics later today.

Dare County offices will close at noon on Friday.
MANNS HARBOR – Strong winds from Tropical Storm Andrea have made ferry travel between Ocracoke and both Cedar Island and Swan Quarter too dangerous, so the afternoon trips on those routes have been cancelled. That means the following trips will not take place:
• Cedar Island to Ocracoke: 1, 4 p.m.;
• Ocracoke to Cedar Island: 1, 3, 4:30 p.m.;
• Swan Quarter to Ocracoke: 1, 4:30 p.m.; and
• Ocracoke to Swan Quarter: 12:45, 4 p.m.
If weather conditions improve, it is possible the Cedar Island to Ocracoke trip at 5:30 p.m. could take place, as well as the Ocracoke to Cedar Island trip at 8 p.m.

The Tornado Watch has been expanded to include all of Hampton Roads and Northeastern North Carolina and extended until 8 pm. A Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop.

NSU Spartan Prep Senior Night at the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center scheduled for tonight, Friday, June 7, has been postponed until 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 10.

Suffolk Parks & Recreation advises that all Co-Ed Softball Games scheduled for this evening have been cancelled due to field conditions related to Tropical Storm Andrea.
Elizabeth City, N.C. – Power has been restored to about 1,000 customers in Elizabeth City Friday afternoon.
Officials say high winds caused a pine tree to fall onto power lines, causing the outages.
Power was out for about an hour and fifteen minutes, according to the Elizabeth City Electric Manager.

A tree has fallen down near the intersection of Providence Road and Edwin Drive and some power lines are down. Over 600 customers had power knocked out. Some homes have been restored but about 450 are still out. The estimated restoration time is 10 p.m.

Post-Tropical Cyclone Andrea is now centered over the Chesapeake Bay and will continue to move rapidly off to the northeast at 45 mph. Showers and storms wrapping around the storm continue to produce heavy rainfall in northern and western portions of Hampton Roads. Some areas in James City County have received more than eight inches of rain from Andrea. Maximum sustained winds are at 45 miles per hour with gusts to 52.
