Newport News, Va. – A black bear was spotted in Newport News on Wednesday afternoon near the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station.
Officers believe the bear came from the reserved wood line area.
Police say it was seen near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Yorktown Road at around 2:30 p.m.
Officers followed the bear back along the fence line and watched it go into York County. York County officials took over at that point.
They say the bear did not appear to bother anyone and it went back into the woods.
No one had to be evacuated during this incident.
