Norfolk, Va. - More than a dozen people who worked for two Norfolk Liberty Taxes franchises will get their paychecks and bonuses, according to the corporation's COO Rufe Vanderpool.

"It's great.  We can make it right," Vanderpool said.

NewsChannel 3 took action Tuesday when Lyn Sanders and Renee Garrison contacted investigative reporter Jessica Larche for help.

"At this point we're missing two checks and our bonuses," Garrison said.

"A little over $3,000," said Sanders.

Around Mother's Day, they say Liberty Taxes franchisee Kevin Williams bailed on the business.

"He's indebted to a number of people," said Vanderpool.  "He just basically went out of business and when he did, he just left and abandoned the stores.  Abandoned his employees."

However, when the women tried to get answers from corporate managers since their last check in mid April, they said corporate leaders essentially told them "tough" because Williams' employees are not employed through the corporation.

But on Friday, Vanderpool said they have decided to take over Williams' franchises and pay the women in the next few days.

"Sounds good," said Sanders.  "Hope it happens that way."

"We were just hitting like a wall every time [we tried to get help]," said Garrison.  "We didn't know where else to go, so I'm glad [NewsChannel 3] was here to help us out.
