Update: Portsmouth police search for man accused of firing into crowd

Update: Police have now identified a suspect accused of firing into a crowd during an altercation over the weekend as 19-year-old Taleik Kersey of Chesapeake. He is now facing charges for malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Portsmouth, Va – Portsmouth police need your help to find a man who they say fired into a crowd of people during an altercation over the weekend.

The man accused has been identified as 19-year-old Taleik Kersey of Chesapeake. He has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Police and SWAT locked down a portion of the Swanson Homes neighborhood to look for Kersey Sunday afternoon.

Police say they received a call at around 12:20 pm that a man had been shot at 88 Merrimac Dr.

Previous altercations between the two groups may have led to this incident according to authorities.

The victim was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and is now listed in good condition.
