Chesapeake, Va. - Friday, the Gilmerton Bridge closed at 10 p.m. to allow crews to prepare to remove old munitions that were discovered earlier this year.
The bridge will be closed until 7 a.m. on Saturday.
The munitions were found at the old bascule pier and they have been determined inert.
Drivers can use the I-64 High Rise Bridge or the South Norfolk Jordan Bridge as alternates. (Note: The South Norfolk Jordan Bridge is tolled.)
