Norfolk, Va. – David William Smith, the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church and School, has been arrested for possession of child pornography in Norfolk. The police department’s Computer Crimes Section conducted an investigation and Smith was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon.

For the past two years, he’s run Trinity Lutheran Church and School on Granby Street.

NewsChannel 3 spoke with a handful of people involved in the church and school, all of whom had trouble believing the charges the pastor is facing.

Police are giving few details about the investigation, only saying that it’s been going on for some time.

The pastor lives in Poquoson, but the charges stem from possession of the child porn in Norfolk.

Police are still investigating this case.
