Newport News officer arrested for perjury

Newport News, Va.-- A Newport News police officer has been arrested for perjury according to the Newport News Police Department.

There were significant discrepancies in 49-year-old Scott A. Mounter's testimony during the prosecution of a DUI case in traffic court according to police. The department conducted an investigation and presented their case to the Grand Jury.

On Monday, the Grand Jury heard the case and indicted the officer for one count each of perjury and falsely summoning or giving false reports to law enforcement.

He was then arrested at the Department’s South Precinct and was later released on his own recognizance by a magistrate pending a court appearance in Circuit Court tomorrow

He has been with the department since 2005 and served as a patrol officer.

Mounger is now on administrative leave without pay.
