Virginia Beach, Va. --Police say they've charged a 22-year-old man, Trevor Lamont Snowden, with reckless handling of a firearm after he allegedly fired at two people he said were attempting to rob him.

Police went to the 500 block Mango Drive in reference to shots fired in the area on Saturday night.

They spoke with Snowden who told them his dog was acting strange.

He says he walked back to his bedroom and saw two masked suspects leaning in on his open bedroom window according to police.

He told authorities that the two suspects were pointing guns at him and told him to close the bedroom door behind him.

He believed the suspects were trying to rob him.

Police say he told them he stepped out into his hallway, grabbed his shotgun and fired through the bedroom door.

They say he opened his door and fired several more shots toward the open window.  Police say the alleged suspects left the area and were not located.

No one else was hurt during this incident.

Snowden was released on a summons.
