Taking Action to make prom affordable for local girls

Posted

Hampton Roads, Va. - The 8th Annual Fairy Godmothers of Virginia Prom Fair is coming up in March.

The purpose of the event is to allow high school juniors and seniors with a financial hardship to buy affordable prom dresses and accessories. Locals are donating dresses, shoes, and accessories to drop-off locations across the Hampton Roads area. Donation drop-off sites include HiHo Silver and Dillards at MacArthur Center.

Most of the donated dresses have only been worn once -and there are even some brand new dresses! Students must be a junior or senior to participate, and show a valid student ID. First come, first served.

This year, students will not pre-register online. They will fill out an information card when they arrive at the prom fair.

During our WTKR/WGNT fashion show, six high school girls modeled some of the dresses that will be available for area high school girls to purchase at this year's Fairy Godmothers of Virginia Prom Fair. (video above)

This is the 5th year NewsChannel 3 has partnered with Fairy Godmothers of Virginia for this event.
