Isle of Wight Co., Va. - Crews have identified the body of a victim whose body was found badly burned near a vehicle in Carrollton early Tuesday morning. The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Torrey Lamont Anderson of Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Isle of Wight Sheriff's Office is investigating this case as a murder.
Officials with the Medical Examiner's Office say the victim, Torrey Anderson, died after being shot; his body was "burned beyond recognition" when found.
According to Kristin Wilda of the Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Office, dispatch received the call from a passing motorist at 3:48 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2013. The vehicle was reportedly on fire in the 1300 block of Nike Park Road in Carrollton.
Crews responded to the scene of the burning vehicle, and found Anderson's body severely burned, lying on the ground nearby.
Officials say the body was found in a wooded area in that block of Nike Park Road, near the intersection of Reynolds Drive. The car had been pulled off to the side, into a field.
Isle of Wight Sheriff’s investigators responded to the scene, as well as State Police arson investigators.
According to Kristin Wilda of the Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Office, investigators have learned that Torrey Lamont Anderson was staying with an unidentified young woman in Newport News in the days leading up to his death.
