Former Army Staff Sergeant Clint Romesha earned the Medal of Honor for his actions in Afghanistan during a fierce battle on October 3, 2009.

He was speechless at first when President Obama called to inform him of the honor, then told the president that the medal wasn’t about him, but everyone who fought that day.

Romesha will also be honored by the Obamas as a guest of the first lady at Tuesday night’s State of the Union.
