Officials say, Torrey Lavell Washington, a 33-year-old Beach man, was found guilty of armed burglary, abduction, and use of a firearm after family was robbed in the Harpers Square complex.

The jury recommended a sentence of 38 years, 12 months’ imprisonment, and a fine of $5,500.

Officials say Washington and another man forced their way into an apartment in the Harpers Square Complex.

They say a couple and their two children were home asleep at the time.

Officials say the co-conspirator was armed and both men had their faces partially covered.

They say Washington was on the lookout and held the victims’ front door closed.

They say the accomplice demanded money from the family and ordered them to the floor.

Officials say the gunman took cell phones, money and a gun from the home.

Police linked Washington to the crime through a fingerprint found on the front door during the investigation.

Washington was tried previously, but the judge declared a mistrial because the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict.

He will be formally sentenced in April.
