Virginia Beach, Va. – Chartway Federal Credit Union employees and members rallied together to help ensure that thousands of needy children in Hampton Roads could wake up Christmas morning with the smiles and glee of playing with a new toy.
“No child should have to go without a present and no parent should have to see the look of sadness on their child’s face because for some families, holiday presents are luxuries — and food, heat, and clothing are necessities,” Rick Richter, Vice President of Technology.
“Chartway employees are fortunate that we can provide for our kids, but there are many others that can’t and we all feel passionate in helping our community. We all stepped up for Toys for Tots because it is important to keep the magic of Christmas
alive for both children and their parents. And how can you say no to the U.S. Marine Corps after all of their service to this great country.”
With a goal of collecting 2,000 toys, the credit union encouraged employees to drop off brand new toys in collection boxes located in their respective Chartway branches. Friendly competition between departments, branches, and individuals helped push this year’s drive well past all previous donation records at the credit union. In surpassing its goal and donating 3,070 toys, Chartway landed among the top five corporate contributors in Hampton Roads, according to Toys for Tots.
