Update: Five kids transported after Beach school bus accident, bus driver charged

On Wednesday at around 3:51 p.m., a Virginia Beach school bus from Salem Middle was involved in an accident on Salem Road and Lynnhaven Parkway. 

Police say a disabled vehicle was on Salem Road and the driver was waiting for a wrecker. They say the school bus turned onto Salem Road from Lynnhaven Parkway and hit the vehicle. 

Four students were transported to the hospital for minor injuries and a 4-year-old from the vehicle was transported as a precaution. 

The school bus driver has now been charged with following too closely. The driver has been identified as Vernetta Gibson, 48, of Virginia Beach. She was issued a summons.
