So you have an Android phone. Now you need apps. But with so many to choose from where do you start? Here’s some of my must have apps.
1.) A replacement browser. The internet browser that comes with Android is nice and simple. But for most of us, it’s just not enough. If you’re on Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean (Android 4.0/4.1) you’re in luck! You can get Google’s Chrome browser! And it syncs with your home computer’s Chrome browser. It’s fantastic! But what if you’re still on Gingerbread? There are several alternatives – Dolphin browser or Firefox are good choices.
2.) Ringtones and wallpapers. Again, there are a lot of choices. But I do recommend Zedge. It has great ringtones, message tones and wallpapers. It’s simple and free!
3.) Streaming Radio. This is a must have for you music fans! Pandora is my app of choice for this, but there are others like Slacker, Spotify and DI Radio just to name a few. WARNING – these streaming music apps can use a lot of data, so if you’re watching how much data you consume, you’ll want to be careful with these types of apps.
4.) Cloud storage. I love keeping my files and what not backed up in the cloud. It’s an easy way to have access to them and to share them with friends or with your home/work computer. Check out Google Drive, DropBox, or Box.
5.) File managers. Even though I just said I love the cloud storage, I do keep a lot of files on my phone. I really like Astro File Manager for finding them. Of course there are lots of file manager apps out there, and another one might suit you better. It’s all about preference.
6.) Audiobooks. I love them! I listen to them at the gym, in the car, at home. I’m addicted to them. And one of the best apps I’ve found is called MortPlayer Audio Books. It has a lot of great features including a sleep timer in case you want to fall asleep listening.
Those are just a few of my favorites. I could list a lot more, but that’s a start. What are your favorite apps? What do you HAVE to have? Let me know in the comments or tweet me! @Doctor_Droid
