Rocky is still on bed rest, unable to run around after police say a neighbor shot him after the dog allegedly attacked the neighbor’s rat terrier puppy.
Investigators say the neighbor’s kids were walking the dog when it happened.
Rocky’s owner, Kristina Lugo, says she is shocked because she has never had problems with him before, even with the stigma attached to his pit bull breed.
Lugo adds, “I wouldn't say he's an aggressive dog whatsoever. I have a 2-year-old daughter who jumps on him like he's a horse. She pulls his ears.”
Now she’s facing a couple of misdemeanor charges for allowing her dog to run loose in the neighborhood, and Rocky has been categorized as a dangerous dog.
The man who shot Rocky isn’t facing any charges because police say it was out of self-defense.
Lugo says, "I just feel like there were other ways that this could have possibly been handled. I don't believe in animal cruelty. I don't think shooting an animal was an answer to that."
She still doesn’t know how Rocky got out of her backyard. She says she has moved things around to make sure this does not happen again.
Both dogs are expected to be okay.
