Holding onto her mom, three-year-old Kanasia returns home with her arm bandaged up marking the spot where a bullet hit her.

Kareem Law, her father, says, “She was asleep then boom. I ran over there and she started to cry and blood began squirting on me.”

Law says they were watching a movie when the shot was fired from upstairs. And when he ran to his neighbor’s house, he says the neighbor broke down in tears.

Law adds, “He did break down. I’ll give him that. In a sense, it was hurtful to see that but at the same time you have to be careful with firearms.”

The neighbor's wife tells NewsChannel 3 her husband was disarming the gun when it fired. She says they bought the gun months ago after someone broke into their home.

As a military wife, she was worried about being home alone with their six-month-old son.

But for Law and his family, the process of healing may take a while. Kanasia is still in shock.

Law adds, “She was frantic. She wouldn’t even talk to me or the doctors. But, she’d talk to her more when everyone was gone.”

Right now, the neighbor has not been charged. It's a decision Law doesn’t agree with.

Law says “I want charges filed so nothing like this happens again. I don’t wish this on anybody.”
