According to police, a 16-year-old Churchland High School student has been charged with rape after allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in the stairway at school on Wednesday. The incident was captured on surveillance cameras inside the school.
Police say the girl’s parent reported the incident.
Police say the 16-year-old approached the girl on the second floor landing between the stairs. She was on her way to class when she encountered the suspect. Police say he grabbed the girl, removed her clothes and sexually assaulted her.
The victim was taken to Maryview Hospital and treated for injuries received during the assault.
The suspect was transported to Portsmouth Juvenile Intake and charged with rape today.
He was arrested and turned over to the Chesapeake Juvenile Detention Center pending a hearing.
