With boxes and bags in hand, those forced out of their homes after an FA 18 jet crashed into an apartment complex are back home at Mayfair Mews.

For the past five weeks, many have been living in hotels.

Paula Moran, a resident, says "I can't tell you how nice it is to be able to come home now."

After moving, many stood together remembering the last time they were at the complex together.

Colby Smith wasn't one of the lucky ones. He lost everything in the crash.

Smith says,"There was barely no floor. My stairs were gone. My room was nothing but ash."

He came to support his friend Pat Kavanaugh who helped him rescue a pilot after the crash. NewsChannel 3 spoke with Kavanaugh the day of the crash.

He invited us inside of his apartment showing us his spotless home, even though the jet came to rest less than 50 feet away.

Kavanaugh says he is now focued on putting the crash behind him like many others.

He says, "It's going to take time for us to get back in and comfortable again."
