Zach Staton

Sports Reporter

Born and raised in Salem, Virginia, Zach Staton had a love for sports, talking about them to anybody who would listen.

Now he's turned that passion into his dream, returning to his home state in August of 2022 to join the News 3 sports team.

Prior to coming to Hampton Roads, Zach spent four years as a sports anchor/reporter at WDAY in Fargo, North Dakota. He covered numerous events and teams across North Dakota and Minnesota, including Vikings training camp and games, an NFL Draft, and a string of North Dakota State football national championships.

Before getting into the field, Zach graduated from Bridgewater College with a degree in Communication Studies. He then attended Syracuse University, earning his master's in Broadcast and Digital Journalism with a Sports Communication emphasis.

When he's not telling stories from around the 757 sports scene, Zach can be found exploring the Seven Cities with his wife, Logan. He enjoys finding new places to help build his basketball shoe collection, getting out to the beach, and taking strolls with his golden retriever, Daisy.
