Chief Meteorologist Patrick Rockey's First Warning Forecast

Temperatures will be cooling down in the week ahead, but the tropics are heating up.

An area of disturbed weather in the Atlantic near the Cabo Verde islands is showing serious signs of development.

It has a 90% chance for growing into a tropical depression or even a tropical storm over the next few days.

The storm is expected to continue its westerly track, generally toward the Caribbean and the US mainland over the next few days. This is one we will be watching closely.

Meanwhile, back here at home, a frontal boundary is expected to move into the region and stick around much of this week. That means we can expect falling rain and falling temperatures.

But we won’t see either of those things on Monday. We are expecting warm and dry weather for the Juneteenth holiday.

It looks like the Mercury will top out in the mid-to-upper 80s. But humidity should stay fairly low.

That will be changing as we head through the work week. As the temperatures go down, our humidity levels will be increasing along with our rain chances.

It’s looking like we will be mainly dry during the daytime hours on Tuesday, with a chance for showers and storms developing in the evening hours. Expect high temperatures in the upper 70s in the lower 80s.

Wednesday is the first day of summer and should also be our coolest day over the next week, with high temperatures in the mid 70s.  Showers and thunderstorms are looking likely, and will stick around for your Thursday.

Things start to heat back up on Friday with highs in the lower 80s and a 50% chance for showers and thunderstorms.

And we can expect a very summertime pattern next weekend, with heat humidity and a chance for afternoon thunderstorms. Stay tuned.
